Gather 'round boys and girls and form a circle on the rug, because it's time for a nice little rant.
Okay... What is it with people who post pictures in the stock section that aren't actually stock? I mean, I can understand misplacing submissions sometimes, but stock? Seriously, it's clearly stated that stock is images you own and are allowing people to use for manipulations and whatnot. And you have to click "continue" before you can go forward, so it's not like you can't notice it.
Stock Photography are photos which the photographer enters into the public domain for incorporation into other artists' work.
Please realise that stock images should be of high quality and low compression. Images that are unfocused, blurry and shaken are not very suited to be used for manipulations or designs. Also, images taken in a low resolution, are neither very suited for use - since you can't size up without losing data. Designers prefer high resolution images, that way no details are lost when they size them down. Therefore; using your webcam to take stock photos are not very smart or appreciated.
NOTE: There are a number of different types of stock imagery licenses, and deviantART does not currently have an in-depth system for making this process any simpler for deviants. Make sure you are very clear about what kind of license you are extending to other artists when you submit into this category. You must extend some public use license if you intend to submit here; otherwise, your submission belongs in the Photography gallery.
- That DOES NOT mean "Here's a picture of my friend/boy friend/kitty isn't it special?! ^_^" because those pictures will probably be used by someone else and then your smile might fade... "OMG how dar u use mi boifrind leik dat!!! hes mine not urs!!!1". Come on, it's not our fault that out of all of the places to put it, you placed the pictures in stock. It's not our fault that you didn't read what stock IS.
- That DOES NOT mean posting pictures you found on Google. Google is a site to search the web, not a stock resource. AND even if it was stock, I doubt you have the promission to repost it like that.
- That DOES NOT mean posting things that you have edited and want to show other people. That goes in another section. (I saved one of those today... )
- That DOES NOT mean posting a screen cap of Inuyasha and telling people to play with it. (I've seen that several times by different users. WTF?) That's against DA's policy. for one thing...
I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of it/them at the moment.
And I'm sorry, but 200x200 super-pixelated camera phone pictures are not very useful. I'm sure my stock isn't that great, but come on. What is anyone going to do with that? Honestly.
I usually try to refrain from ranting, but sometimes I just can't hold it in. I save stock photos in another folder and it's rather frustrating when I save a picture into my stock folder and then realize it's not stock. And, sure, I could just delete it, but I have tons of images and folders and deleting a bunch of random images here and there can take longer than it should. *sighs*
I'm done now. You can go one with your lives...

I now have over 50 stock images of fish that you may use for your artwork. :D And there's more to come. *hasn't posted them all yet and will take more photos in the future because she loves taking pictures of them*
Also, I'm thinking about selling a few prints on both my stock account and main account and set the profit to "deviant dollars" so that I can buy paid accounts for both. :)
A few hours away from 2008... o_o
